We thought we’d share with you some of our frequently asked questions about our moorings. If you have any questions that haven’t been answered on this page, please get in touch. We look forward to hearing from you!

How much will my rental mooring cost me?
The rate for 2025 season is £117.55 plus VAT per metre (£35.84 plus VAT per foot) as well as a £10 payment towards the upkeep of the 4 cardinal buoys around the river, which are August Rock, Car Crock, Voose and Bar.
Are there any further costs that you will charge me?
No. We offer our rental customers a full package, with the mooring fully serviced and ready to go!
How will I tell which is my mooring?
All our moorings are marked with the mooring number and they all start with a single letter, then a number. In the case of our deep water moorings, the Letters denote a line of moorings going East-West. The lowest numbers start at the East end of the line.
Will there be enough depth for my boat under the mooring?
Yes, all deep water moorings have plenty of depth but drying moorings will dry out at low water Spring Tides.
What is the safest way to secure my boat to the mooring?
All deep water moorings will come with a small pickup buoy, attached by rope to the pickup chain. The pickup chain will have a chain loop made into the rope end of it. Pick the small pickup buoy up, bring it aboard, pull in the rope and slip the chain loop over your cleat. If you keep the rope and buoy aboard whilst you are moored up, it will always be free of weed. Some drying moorings have just a shackle on top of the large riser buoy, so either fix your own pickup equipment or use a rope knotted to the shackle. Try to avoid passing a rope through the shackle and tying both ends to your boat, as this might wear through on the shackle.
Can we have a friend raft up alongside us?
Yes, but not overnight please. The mooring is only designed for your size of vessel.
Where can we dispose of refuse?
Please take it home with you! Or there are bins on the South side, by Helford Sailing Club which is for visiting yachtsmen.
Where can we store our tender?
Southsiders; try joining the HRSC. Northsiders; try Helford River Boats, at Helford Passage.
Can I hail the Mooring Officer for assistance?
The mooring Officer works for Helford River Moorings and not for us. Obviously if it’s an emergency he will help you as will any river user. If it’s not an emergency please contact us.
Do I need insurance?
Yes. You need, at the very least, 3rd party insurance.
If you have any other questions then please do contact us.
